Candleholder 03

Hand-forged, Chandelier 03 consists of two hammered iron rods, assembled while hot and intertwined to form the jaws that holds the wax candle. These rods are screwed onto a thin, circular base. The artisan strikes and stretches the material on the anvil, gradually shaping its silhouette. The manufacturing process takes several hours. Also known as a rushlight, this primitive lighting was widely used along the Atlantic coast, from Ireland to the Pyrenees, including England and Brittany, until the 20th century. In the past, a simple fragment of resin harvested from a tree would replace the wax candle.
